Facebook and its Face recognition technology

So as I was just busy going through my feed on facebook, I noticed one interesting feature. Turns out now facebook will use this new feature that runs on facial recognition to send you an alert if someone posts a photo of you. Facial recognition is nothing new to facebook, as they have always been using this technology to suggest who to tag in photos you upload.

I do find it interesting that, next time someone captures a moment without me realizing, I would actually get an alert if they so decide to post this pic on facebook, or in a case where someone is trying to impersonate me, I can get an alert (which is a very rare case by the way).

The beauty of it though is that, you can actually choose to turn this feature off, and on at anytime which I think is a good thing to give its users that option, though it is by default turned on, until you decide to turn it off. While some will not like the idea of facebook alerting them, I think I would leave this feature on, obviously for security reasons and maybe even if you want to suggest I have a Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO).
