Many a time have we deleted a file or folder by mistake. But did you Know those files and folders are actually recoverable, depending on how much more data did you put in your drive after deleting them? Yes, this is not rocket science, and you do not need forensics to undelete your files.
The good thing is that this solution is free, and it is totally harmless. Thanks to this privately-owned software company based in London called Piriform, we have a freeware windows utility that helps us recover our deleted files even after emptying the recycle bin, and this utility they called it Recuva (Pronounced as Recover).
Gone are the days when you would forget about recovering those photos you took while you were on vacation, or that folder that contains documents with crucial information. This utility can be downloaded and installed for free and it has proven to be a very useful tool in most cases. The other reason why I think this is a wonderful tool is that, it does not only recover files from your computer drive, but also from removable devices like your smartphone, your flash drive, your MicroSD etc.
So here are the steps to file recovery:
1. Download and install the latest version of recuva from the ccleaner website, or you could simply google recuva and download from their official website;
2. Open your recovery utility (recuva) and make sure your drive is plugged into your computer;
3. On the recuva dashboard, select the drive from which you want to recover files and click scan.
4. After its done scanning, a list of deleted items and their potential to be recovered will appear on your screen, so you select the file which you want to recover and then click recover button.
The rest of the steps are simple, you just follow the prompts on your screen. Feel free to add your own solutions in the comments section below. Recuva is not the only recovery tool, but it is one of the tools that we tested.
Happy file recovery Folks
